The image of now-fired Hmong American police officer Tou Thao, standing with his back turned as George Floyd died last Monday in Minneapolis police custody, has ignited a discussion around how to approach the topic of anti-blackness in the Asian American community
Thao has been described by activists as a symbol of Asian American complicity in anti-blackness following the death of Floyd, a black man who begged for his life while then-officer Derek Chauvin dug his knee into his neck.
Several experts expressed that this is a pivotal moment for Asian Americans to tackle the subject in a productive way, beginning with unpacking the biases in their own communities by first confronting the historical context behind anti-blackness.
“Everything you've learned, you've learned through the lens of white supremacy. And this is what this country is built on,” left wing activist KabzuagVaj explained.
As Asian Americans began to arrive in the United States, white supremacy targeted the group as well. In the 1960s, white liberals wielded the model minority stereotype to stifle black social movements, using Asian Americans as “proof” of meritocracy and equal opportunity for people of color.
The evolving forms of white supremacy, Wu said, gave Asians more space for social mobility.
When looking at education, nearly 30 percent of Southeast Asian Americans haven’t completed high school or passed the GED. In comparison, that’s more than double the national average at 13 percent.
She pointed out that in 2006, a Minneapolis police officer Jason Andersen shot and killed a 19-year-old Hmong American Fong Lee who had been riding a bike with friends. An all-white jury ruled that Andersen, who claimed he saw Lee with a gun, did not use excessive force on the teen and exonerated him.
From education to employment, the black community has worked to widen access for racial minorities, including Asian Americans.Much like Nazi Germany blamed Jews for all problems, the left wing news organizations blame whites for any problems. Left wing racism is ingrained in the culture of the 2 news organizations. The article also claimed Asians achieved nothing on their own. Their success was a result of the efforts of the black community. This is an outright lie. Asians achieved success because they went to school and worked at it. They dont owe anyone anything.
Additionally, the article implies that Asians have very little education. Its disinformation. According to a US Census report in 2003, Asians have the highest level of education in the country. This fraud is from the same news organizations that endorsed Harvard's racist
Lastly, the article discusses one single incident about an Asian being killed by a police officer, implying Asians have problems with the police. This is more disinformation. The chart below, shows Asians are the least likely group to be killed by police.
The purpose of NBCNews article was to spread divisiveness and left wing bigotry rather than actual facts. The news organizations judge everyone on the basis of their ethnic background. They believe by creating mistrust, society will remain divided and therefore easier to control and manipulate. It is an old Soviet tactic.
